another lesson in nature
about community, kinship
how we are to support
our sisters, our brothers
the roots of the giant redwoods
not deep, like you might imagine
vulnerable to the wind,
their roots near the surface
intertwined with their neighbors
strong cords together
like interlocked arms
hands on another’s forearm
stronger together
in service to one another
Bound with Jesus
Alive in the vine
