Snow on the Mountain – 2 – v3

Far too cold for speedos, summer,
An early winter upon us, heavy,
The sky bluish-gray, snowing
the clouds glowering down upon us, below zero;
Within the scope of its influence
Mt. Katahdin, The Mountain, Pamola,
the spirit guiding the mountain,
Drifting snow, blowing, calling to us
us to the woods, to walking in old snow shoes.

The season of Santa Claus coming
ho, ho, ho, gimme, gimme…
footprints of the moose, the deer,
woolly-bear caterpillars in the lee of the branches,
harbingers of winter, encased in ice

An igloo in the trees, sky blue, windy,
sparkly under the icecap, needing
a dog sled, sledding deeper;
Longing for fire, the warmth of home
memories of Christmas, of family, presents,
Eating ham and football, of ice fishing,
skating on the frozen pond,
warming by the fires, hot chocolate,
our trees with glowing lights.

All still within, frozen silent,
encased in our cocoons, bubbles,
our breath a cloud before us outdoors
wanting to stay indoors, warm,
when there is snow on the mountain.
