changing our nation’s history

the pundits asked each other

would his words have an impact

would anything change

through the words he spoke

there was power in his words

humble words of service

words of love, compassion

of God’s Golden Rule

within a day, less really,

a momentous decision

changing our nation’s history

the Speaker stepping down

He was willing to sacrifice

for the Congress, for our nation

changing his plans this morning

for the common good.
